Rare old necklace in the shape of a snake, composed of a body with articulated scales in 14 Kt yellow gold (hallmark: scallop shell ) , a head partly decorated with turquoise blue enamel and fine pearls, and eyes set with garnet cabochons. The snake holds in its mouth a medallion also decorated with enamel and a fine pearl surrounded by rose-cut diamonds. Secret compartment on the back decorated with braided hair under a glass plate. Victorian work, English, mid-19th century, circa 1860. Gross weight: 16.78 g Pendant height: 5.00 cm Chain length: 37.00 cm Condition: slight micro scratches, oxidation, and shocks on the gold parts, slight wear on the stones and enamel, see photos.
