CHAUMET “Links” collection
In France, there are very old jewelry houses, players in the reputation of the Place Vendôme and close to the greatest families in France. This is the case of Chaumet, a Parisian jeweler since the end of the 18th century. A virtuoso for 240 years, Chaumet is particularly renowned for having created the most beautiful sets for the Empress Joséphine. The house has also given birth to iconic collections such as Liens jewelry.
The Liens collection is as old as Chaumet, it is a characteristic motif of the Parisian Jewelry House. Highly symbolic, it represents the bond that unites two people. If this collection has of course given birth to many rings, the motif is also found on pendants, necklaces or even bracelets and earrings. The theme of the link is also declined in several collections among which we distinguish the “Liens d'amour”, “Liens séduction”, “Liens évidence” but also “Jeux de liens”.
Castafiore invites you to discover and rediscover this iconic collection from Chaumet through a selection of second-hand pieces.
Chaumet: a very old fine jewelry house
Chaumet is a House founded in 1780 by the artisan jeweler Marie-Étienne Nitot. Before creating his own workshop, Nitot worked with Ange-Joseph Aubert, official jeweler to Marie-Antoinette. By flying on his own wings, Nitot gave birth to a House that would span the centuries and establish itself among the greatest French families. Chaumet created Napoleon's coronation sword and was also the official supplier to Empress Joséphine.
It was Marie-Étienne Nitot's son, François Regnault, who decided to set up Maison Chaumet on Place Vendôme, at number 15, which is now the location of the Ritz. Chaumet thus definitively established its reputation and endeavored to follow trends throughout the centuries. The jewelry business took its current name in 1885 when a certain Joseph Chaumet took over the management of the House. It was Joseph who gave Chaumet one of its specialties: the creation of tiaras and sets depicting egrets.
Chaumet always followed stylistic developments and notably took the turn of Art Deco by making platinum jewelry made of contrasts and graphic lines. Chaumet also participated in the avant-garde of the 1930s and began to diversify its activity in the 1950s by also becoming a watchmaker.
The 1970s marked the creation of a new signature collection for Chaumet: the Liens, which celebrate the attachment between two people. Today, Chaumet belongs to the LVMH group, a historic luxury house whose jewelry can be purchased but whose finery can also be admired in the windows of the world's greatest museums.
Chaumet’s Liens collection: highly symbolic creations
Although the official creation of the Liens collection dates back to the 1970s, the motif is actually much older in the history of Maison Chaumet. As early as 1780, the link appeared in sentimental jewelry, and in the Lacs d'Amour collection, it can also be found in sketches drawn by Chaumet during the Belle Époque and Art Deco periods.
When the collection was officially created, Chaumet wanted to offer highly symbolic jewelry, which embodied the thread that connects two beings in order to bring their destiny closer together. Chaumet jewelry then takes on its full emotional dimension, it is an object that marks the stage of a life.
Since 1970, the jewelry house has opened new chapters in the history of Liens. Also, new symbolism and new designs have come to enrich the original philosophy of this signature collection. Liens Séduction tell the story of light and playful seduction, Jeux de Liens reinterpret and renew the design of the sentimental jewels dear to Chaumet, Liens Évidence symbolize the bridge that associates two destinies and Liens d'Amour embody the ultimate declaration of love, the one that seals the union of a life. All these chapters are punctuated by rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and pendants, in platinum, rose gold or white gold set with diamonds. The jewelry house on Place Vendôme has also developed an even more luxurious collection by offering white gold Liens adorned with sapphires or rubies and diamonds.
